History of the Beppino Houses
An old agricultural business
Case Beppino used to be the center of an old farm producing wine, oil, wheat and dedicated to animal farming, on an area of about 80,000 square meters.
The property was managed for three generations with under the old sharecropping system. At the end of the 70s the sharecroppers abandoned the farm to find employment with local companies that guaranteed a secure salary, because sharecropping was no longer profitable.
Abandoned period
After the premature death of the Father the current owner Giuseppe, just coming of age at the time, had no economic possibilities and experience to modernize and continue the business of his ancestors. The house was then used exclusively for post hippy gathering, popular at that time.
From 1980 to 2003 the place was almost completely abandoned, due to the multiple commitments, studies, travel and Giuseppe’s professional life.
Sale of part of the land
The affection for those places, both of Giuseppe and his mother was remarkable, both for respect off the ancestors and for the memory of childhood’s summer months that had allowed one to breathe that pleasant countryside activity.
From 2003, in the spare time of is professional life, Giuseppe begain a cleaning of the outdoor spaces, the recovery of some olive trees and the planting of new ones. But management of full property was nearly impossible, so a large part of the land and stables was sold to neighboring farmers. Keeping the body of the farm unchanged with the current approximately 16,000 square meters, the farmer house and the stable adjacent to the building.
In 2011, with great financial commitment, the renovation of the house was started and then, in 2017, of the nearby stable.
Refurbishment
The goal was to restore it mainly with original materials from the times when it was inhabited, with of course all of the modern amenities to make it comfortable to live.
Even the layout of the rooms, the surrounding farmyard, the recovered oven and barbecue have remained as they use to be originally.
The stable has been recovered externally as it used to be, while inside a modern cut has been given with a very bright open space and where you can enjoy the splendid landscape of the Apuane Alps and in particular on the Pania and Gragno mountains, where one can enjoy pleasant walks or trekking routes; as in other parts of the Garfagnana area.
Various uses
The property is often used by the owners as a second home. It is use as a tourist rental for short g longer periods, and for the pleasure of sharing this agricultural and scenic beauty with others.
We have no certain information about the creation of the town from previous centuries.
Historical stone
During the renovation, we found a stone with a date of 1792 roughly engraved on. We placed the stone in the central part of one of the terraces where the fertilizer used to be. We are not sure but it is probably the date of the end of the original construction.
